SaskGaming Event Provides More Than $30,000 to Charity

Six local nonprofits won a total of $30,000 in charitable donations from SaskGaming last night at the Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw Charity Challenge.

Moose Jaw Food Bank won the grand prize of $10,000, Moose Jaw Family Services took second place and received $7,500, and Family Service Regina took third place, receiving $5,000. YMCA Regina, Circle Project and Carmichael Outreach received $2,500 each. In addition, All Nations Hope Network and Regina Food Bank split the money raised from ticket sales to the event, receiving $2,000 each.

"The $30,000 in charitable funding awarded last night is just a portion of the more than $500,000 that is provided each year by SaskGaming, on behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, to charities and nonprofits across the province," Minister Responsible for Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan (LGS) Jeremy Harrison said. "Our government is committed to a gaming sector that shares the benefits they receive with Saskatchewan communities and nonprofit organizations, and we commend SaskGaming and the province's other gaming operators for helping us deliver on that commitment."

"Through our community funding program, we are proud to share the benefits of gaming with dozens of charitable and nonprofit organizations that make a difference in the two cities where we operate," SaskGaming President and CEO Blaine Pilatzke said. "Our annual Charity Challenge is one of the more creative ways that we make that happen. Congratulations to the eight nonprofit charities from Regina and Moose Jaw that benefitted from this unique event."

The Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw Charity Challenge featured a "survey says" style game in which representatives from each nonprofit - with help from audience members - competed for a share of the evening's prize pool.

SaskGaming operates Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw as a wholly owned subsidiary of LGS. Casino Regina celebrated its 30th anniversary last month, marking three decades since its official opening on January 26, 1996.
