Canada Helps Thousands of Citizens Leave Mideast Amid Rising Tensions
“Since February 28, more than 22,000 Canadians and permanent residents have returned to Canada through direct and indirect routes from the Middle East,” Global Affairs Canada stated.
Between March 25 and March 30, Ottawa coordinated several bus convoys from Israel to Egypt.
Three of these movements carried a total of 41 Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and their immediate family members. The departures were offered to nearly 6,000 Canadians registered with the government in Israel.
The statement added that Canada has facilitated the evacuation of more than 1,270 Canadians and permanent residents to safe third countries.
Authorities urged Canadians still in the region to leave using commercial travel options while they remain available and warned that worsening security conditions could limit both travel routes and access to consular services.
